The Antequera Police Station welcomes ten trainee officers as part of the summer deployment by the Ministry of the Interior, which deploys 282 police across the province.

The National Police Station in Antequera has incorporated ten trainee officers as part of Operation Summer 2026, a deployment initiated by the Ministry of the Interior for the months of July and August. In total, 282 police officers are added to the teams across the province, along with 127 civil guards.

The Deputy Government Representative in Málaga, Javier Salas, presided over the welcome event at the Provincial Police Station on Thursday, where he highlighted that “these reinforcements are directed to all departments, but especially to Citizen Security and Cybercrime, two areas that become even more relevant during this time of year.”

Increased Police Presence in Tourist Areas

Salas reminded that “with this reinforcement, the number of uniformed personnel in preventive police functions is increased, facilitating their presence in high tourist concentration areas, such as the Costa del Sol.” Operation Summer 2026 complements the measures of the Safe Tourism Plan, which aims to prevent crimes against national and foreign citizens during their travels and stays in tourist spots in the province.

“One of the priority objectives is to enhance prevention against certain criminal offenses against property, such as burglaries in homes, due to the possibility of an increase caused by tourist movements and the rise in stays at second homes,” the deputy representative pointed out.

Cybercrime, Another Key Front

The deputy representative emphasized that “the fight against cybercrime and online fraud also gains special relevance during these dates, as the number of reports about online scams increases due to the rise in bookings for accommodations and travel packages.”

The plan also seeks to expedite investigations by the Judicial Police units and facilitate procedures in reporting offices, reducing waiting times and increasing levels of citizen attention. Additionally, the Foreign Tourist Assistance Service (SATE), which has been assisting tourists in their own language for 15 years, is being enhanced to facilitate communication with consulates and embassies.

For the residents of Antequera and the entire province, this reinforcement means greater security during the summer months, especially in areas with higher tourist traffic. The trainee officers will be accompanied by experienced tutors and will carry out preventive and investigative tasks until the end of August.
