The Ministry of the Interior has allocated 282 trainee officers to the province of Málaga for July and August. Marbella, the second locality with the most reinforcement, receives 54 police officers, four more than last year.
Marbella will have 54 new trainee National Police officers this summer, a reinforcement that is part of Operation Summer 2026. This was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Government Representative in Málaga, Javier Salas, accompanied by the Chief Provincial Commissioner, Roberto Rodríguez. The figure represents four more officers than in 2025, consolidating the city as the second destination with the highest number of reinforcement police, only behind the capital.
Distribution of police reinforcement in the province
Of the 282 trainee officers arriving in the province, the Málaga capital receives 109, while Marbella ranks second with 54. They are followed by Torremolinos-Benalmádena with 40, Fuengirola with 25, Estepona with 20, Vélez-Málaga with 13, Ronda with 11, and Antequera with 10. Additionally, 98 police officers have recently joined the force through a competition, strengthening the stable structure.
The Deputy Representative has highlighted that these officers will be primarily assigned to Citizen Security and Cybercrime, two key areas during the peak season. “With this reinforcement, the number of uniformed personnel in preventive police functions increases, facilitating their presence in areas of high tourist concentration, such as the Costa del Sol,” Salas noted.
Safe Tourism Plan and coordination with the Civil Guard
Operation Summer complements the Safe Tourism Plan, designed to prevent crimes that may affect national and foreign citizens during their travels and stays. The Civil Guard also joins with 127 new officers deployed across the five companies in the province, bringing the total to 409 reinforcement officers from the State Security Forces and Corps.
The aim is to enhance preventive efforts, expedite investigations by the Judicial Police, and streamline processes in reporting offices, reducing waiting times. According to Salas, “these reinforcements are directed to all departments, but especially to Citizen Security and Cybercrime, two areas that gain even more relevance at this time of year.”
The 'Alercops' app remains active for tourists
Once again, the security application 'Alercops' is maintained, a tool that improves information and assistance for tourists, allowing for quick and effective interaction with the State Security Forces and Corps in risk situations throughout the national territory. Visitors to Marbella and the rest of the province will be able to download it to receive alerts and contact the authorities directly.
With this influx of personnel, Marbella strengthens its security apparatus to face the influx of visitors that doubles its population every summer. The new officers, still in training, will be supervised by veterans, but their presence on the streets will be a relief for residents and an added sense of security for tourists. However, it remains to be seen if they can keep up with the demanding pace of Marbella, where luxury and crime sometimes walk the same sidewalk.
The arrival of the reinforcements comes just in time for the start of the peak season, which begins in July. The officers have already started integrating into the police stations and will patrol the busiest areas, such as the promenade, Puerto Banús, and the old town. The message from the Deputy Representative is clear: security is a priority, and this summer, Marbella will be more monitored than ever.
