The vessel ‘Embrujo’, helmed by Bernardo Ortega, has triumphed in the overall ranking of the XXX International Big Game Fishing Tournament held this weekend at the Benalmádena Marina, with 395 kilos and 67 pieces.
The Benalmádena Marina hosted the thirtieth edition of the International Big Game Fishing Tournament over the weekend, a classic event in the municipality's nautical calendar that brought together numerous vessels and fishing enthusiasts.
The vessel ‘Embrujo’, with Bernardo Ortega as captain, has been declared the winner of the overall ranking for total weight, accumulating 395 kilos and 67 pieces across the two rounds contested. The second place went to ‘Molinza’, owned by José L. Molina, with 381.5 kilos and 61 pieces, while ‘Giraldillo Segundo’, helmed by Plácido Antequera, completed the podium with 305.6 kilos and 48 pieces.
In the largest fish category, the victory went to ‘Lajara Dos’, with Jesús Bautista as captain, thanks to the capture of a 12.1-kilo bonito. Following closely were ‘Aura Dos’, owned by Lázaro Moreno, with an 11.4-kilo bonito, and again ‘Molinza’, with a dorado weighing 9.5 kilos.
The competition took place on Saturday and Sunday in the waters of Benalmádena and concluded with the awards ceremony at the Hotel Alay, an event attended by the councillor of the Marina, José Luis Bergillos, and the sports councillor, Alejandro Carretero.
Bergillos congratulated the winners and emphasised that “reaching thirty editions demonstrates the strong roots this competition has and its importance within the nautical programming of our Marina.” He also highlighted the atmosphere experienced throughout the weekend and thanked “the work of the organisation, all the people involved, and the collaborating entities that make it possible for this competition to continue growing.”
For his part, Carretero valued “the sporting component of an event that requires experience, preparation, and many hours of competition,” and congratulated the awardees and all participants.
The tournament, of an Open nature, was held according to the rules of the Spanish Fishing and Casting Federation and the IGFA. In addition to the rounds, the programme included social gatherings among participants before the closing.
