Unemployment in Antequera falls to 2,346 people in June 2026, 9.6% less than a year ago. The drop is more pronounced among women, with a 12.5% year-on-year reduction.
Unemployment in Antequera continues its downward trend. According to data published by the Andalusian Employment Service, the number of registered unemployed in the municipality has decreased by 9.6% over the past year, from 2,595 in June 2025 to 2,346 in the same month of 2026. The decline is particularly significant among women, who have seen the number of unemployed decrease by 208, a 12.5% reduction, compared to a reduction of 41 men (a 4.4% decrease).
Continued decline in the last quarter
Unemployment has progressively decreased over the last three months. In April, there were 2,414 unemployed; in May, 2,374; and in June, 2,346. The month-on-month reduction between May and June has been 28 people, a more moderate pace than in previous months, but which maintains the positive trend. For the residents of Antequera, this represents a gradual improvement in the local job market, with more employment opportunities month by month.
Villanueva del Trabuco and Cañete la Real lead the declines in the region
In the entire Antequera region, the most notable decreases in June correspond to Villanueva del Trabuco, with 20 fewer unemployed, and Cañete la Real, with 19. Both municipalities rank just behind the regional capital and Campillos in terms of reduction volume. In Archidona, unemployment has decreased by nine people, while in Alameda it has fallen by 14, and in Fuente de Piedra, by 10. Humilladero reduces its unemployment by seven people, and Cuevas Bajas, by four. With more modest decreases, Almargen, Villanueva de Tapia, and Villanueva de la Concepción each close with three fewer unemployed, and Valle de Abdalajís with two.
However, not all municipalities in the region have seen improvements in their figures. Mollina has recorded an increase of 31 unemployed compared to May, the most significant in the area. Cuevas de San Marcos and Villanueva de Algaidas also saw increases, with seven more unemployed each; Teba, with five; Sierra de Yeguas, with four; and Carratraca, with one. Villanueva del Rosario remains unchanged. For residents of these towns, the job situation remains uneven, although the overall trend in the region is one of slight improvement.
The decrease in unemployment in Antequera and its region reflects a positive, albeit moderate, dynamic that particularly benefits women and some small municipalities. Data from the coming months will confirm whether this trend solidifies or, conversely, slows down. For now, residents can note that, at least in June, employment has provided some relief.
