The group has submitted a report to the sub-delegate of the Government in Málaga denouncing waiting lists, lack of doctors, and referrals to the private sector. They request a meeting with the Minister of Health.

The Antequera North Health Platform has taken a further step in its fight for the improvement of public healthcare. This Wednesday, representatives of the group met with the sub-delegate of the Government in Málaga to deliver a report detailing what they consider a progressive deterioration of the Andalusian healthcare system. The request is clear: that the Ministry of Health intervenes in the situation that, they claim, violates patients' rights.

The meeting, held at the Sub-delegation's headquarters, served to convey the main complaints of the residents of the Antequera region. Among them, the increase in waiting lists, failure to meet maximum care times, lack of doctors and other healthcare professionals, difficulties in exercising the free choice of physician, and the increase in patient referrals to private healthcare are highlighted.

A report with specific figures and complaints

The document submitted to the sub-delegate includes data and testimonies that, according to the platform, demonstrate a critical situation. “Legal deadlines for being attended to are not being met, and this directly affects people's health,” explained sources from the group. The platform argues that these deficiencies are not exclusive to the Antequera North area but extend throughout Andalusia, which is why they are calling for a coordinated action between the central government and the Junta de Andalucía.

The Health Platform has requested the sub-delegate to convey this concern to the Minister of Health, Mónica García, and to facilitate an institutional meeting. In it, they want to participate alongside representatives of the White Tide to directly present the situation faced by the municipalities in the region.

“Improving public healthcare involves not only denouncing the system's deficiencies but also ensuring the effective enforcement of the rights recognized by current legislation,” the platform advocates.

The impact on residents of the North Zone

For residents of municipalities such as Antequera, Archidona, Mollina, or Humilladero, the healthcare situation translates into endless waits for consultations with specialists or for surgical interventions. The lack of family doctors forces many to travel to other towns or to resort to private healthcare, an expense that not everyone can afford. “It is a matter of equality: we all have the right to dignified healthcare, no matter where we live,” the group stated.

The platform also denounces that referrals to the private sector have become a common practice to alleviate waiting lists, but they believe this does not solve the underlying problem. “It is not about patching things up, but about strengthening public healthcare with more staff and resources,” they insisted.

The next step will be to wait for a response from the Ministry of Health. The platform is hopeful that the sub-delegate will convey their requests and that the minister will agree to meet with them. In the meantime, the residents of the region remain hopeful that promises will turn into actions.
