The Málaga Provincial Council allocates 300,000 euros to each municipality for sewage and water supply as part of the Concertación 2027 plan, which totals nearly 41.2 million euros.

The residents of Archidona and Colmenar will see improvements in their drinking water and sewage networks thanks to a grant of 300,000 euros per municipality. The Málaga Provincial Council has included both towns in the Concertación 2027, a plan that this year allocates 41.2 million euros to infrastructure in the smaller towns of the province.

Two key projects in the Antequera region

The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, presented the programme on Wednesday, July 8, alongside the vice president for Municipal Affairs, Francisca Caracuel. He explained that the 300,000 euros for Archidona will be used for improvements in sewage and water supply, while Colmenar will receive the same amount for similar actions in its water network. Both projects are among the highest individual amounts in the plan.

The allocation responds to a growing demand: municipalities have requested 9.5 million euros for hydraulic works, a 10.5% increase compared to the previous year. This figure represents 23% of the total budget for the Concertación, three points above the minimum of 20% that the Provincial Council reserves for these programmes. In total, the plan will reach 86 municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants in the province, as well as the autonomous local entities of Bobadilla-Estación and Estación de Gaucín-El Colmenar, and the towns of Nerja and Torrox.

More investments in the Antequera region

In addition to Archidona and Colmenar, the Antequera region benefits from other actions. Alameda joins a joint package of 707,000 euros along with Álora, Benadalid, Cuevas Bajas, El Borge, Igualeja, and Montecorto to replace asbestos cement pipes. Although the exact distribution among each locality has not been detailed, the total investment in the area represents a step forward in the renewal of the networks.

At the provincial level, the works planned for next year include repairing 6,509 metres of sewage pipes, replacing 22,325 metres of supply pipes, purchasing 3,504 remote-reading meters, and installing more than 300 solar panels at pumping stations. Salado cited the cases of Archidona and Colmenar as examples:

“Behind all these large numbers, there are very important concrete investments for the municipalities, such as the actions to improve the sewage and supply infrastructure in Archidona and Colmenar, with about 300,000 euros each.”

The Concertación 2027 is structured into three blocks: 40% is allocated to investment and technical assistance programmes, another 40% remains as unconditional funds that each municipality manages according to its priorities, and the remaining 20% is reserved for the integral water cycle. In the last three years, the Provincial Council has mobilised 30.7 million euros solely through the Concertación for water, in addition to another 27.9 million through its own investments, the Provincial Water Consortium, and Next Generation European funds. In total, the plan has distributed 120,873,457 euros among municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants in the province.

The initial approval of the plan is expected at the Provincial Council plenary session this July. The residents of Archidona and Colmenar can expect the works to begin throughout 2027, improving an essential service that directly affects their daily lives.
