The State Meteorological Agency activates the yellow alert in Antequera from 12:00 to 20:00 for precipitation of up to 15 mm in one hour, which may be accompanied by hail.
The province of Málaga is once again looking to the sky. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated a yellow alert for rain and storms in the Antequera region this Thursday, in effect from 12:00 to 20:00. According to Diario Sur, accumulated precipitation of up to 15 litres per square metre in one hour is expected in this inland area, where storms may be accompanied by hail.
The origin is a trough that has left cold air in the upper layers of the atmosphere, an ingredient that will favour the development of storm clouds in the Antequera region during the afternoon. This is explained by meteorology communicator José Luis Escudero on his blog 'Tormentas y Rayos': "The trough has left cold air in the upper layers of the atmosphere, an ingredient that will favour the development of storm clouds in the Antequera region this afternoon."
In Málaga capital, however, the risk is much lower. "Unless there is a surprise, I do not expect storms. If the low clouds become more abundant, they could drop a few drops occasionally, although that also does not seem particularly likely," adds Escudero.
Aemet's forecast for the day indicates skies "with intervals of low clouds and daytime evolving cloudiness in the mountains, not ruling out occasional showers and storms that may be locally strong." Temperatures will generally decrease, with a notable drop in maximums inland and little change in minimums along the coast. Winds will blow lightly to moderately variable, predominantly from the east.
The yellow alert is also active in Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén, while in Almería, Aemet has raised the warning to orange for accumulated precipitation of up to 50 litres per square metre in one hour and up to one hundred in twelve hours. The Junta de Andalucía has suspended classes in educational centres in Cuevas del Almanzora, Pulpí, and Huércal-Overa (Almería) due to the weather forecast.
The yellow alert in Antequera will be in effect until 20:00 this Thursday. After that time, the warning will be deactivated, although it is recommended to follow the weather developments through Aemet's official channels.
