Marbella Town Hall will demand the Ministry of Transport to provisionally open the access from the A-7 to Elviria and Las Chapas, closed in September without prior notice to the City Council.

The Marbella Town Hall has approved in a Local Government Board to urgently send a report to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility requesting the provisional reinstatement of the A-7 exit to Elviria and Las Chapas, in the La Víbora area. The access was closed in September.

The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, explained that the closure occurred without prior communication to the City Council or to the affected residents, businesses, and establishments. As she recalled, the 2021 authorization from the State Road Demarcation provided for, in addition to the removal of some connections, a southern service road and the adaptation of the Elviria link, works that have not yet been executed. The City Council sent a request on September 23 for the immediate opening of the ramp, and to date, has not received a response.

The municipal report includes a study by the Local Police of Marbella, dated October 15, with inspections, photographs, and traffic analysis. Among the incidents detected are the concentration of traffic on Jardines de la Golondrina avenue, delays and collisions between vehicles in the vicinity of the A-7, and an increase in routes through inner streets with one lane in each direction, some with pavement deficiencies. The document also warns of greater exposure for pedestrians near educational and commercial centres.

As a temporary alternative, the Town Hall proposes to recover only the exit from the A-7 to the urban road, without reopening the entry to the motorway. The proposal includes a direct deceleration lane of about 95 metres, with a maximum speed of 40 kilometres per hour, which would connect to about 40 metres of urban road up to the roundabout on Víbora Baja avenue.

“The proposed solution includes a direct deceleration lane of approximately 95 metres, with a maximum speed of 40 kilometres per hour, which would connect to a stretch of urban road of about 40 metres up to the roundabout on Víbora Baja avenue.”

According to the mayor, this measure would alleviate pressure on the Elviria link, reduce delays reaching the A-7, and improve access for residents and services. The request will be sent to the Ministry of Transport, which is the competent authority regarding the motorway.
