The Mijas Town Hall proposes to extend the validity of the Beach Plan 2027-2030 from 8 to 11 months to improve services along the coast. The proposal, which does not require businesses to remain open for the entire period, will be submitted to the Junta de Andalucía before September 30.
The Mijas Town Hall has suggested to coastal businesses to extend the validity of the Beach Plan 2027-2030 from 8 to 11 months, as presented in a meeting held this Thursday at the deputy mayor's office in La Cala. The meeting included the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez, along with his team, and representatives from businesses located on the municipality's beaches.
The proposal aims to provide legal coverage for those who wish to operate for eleven months, from February to December inclusive, although it does not require maintaining activity throughout that period. “It does not require all businesses to remain open during that time,” explained Gómez, who described the measure as a proposal of maximums. Businesses will continue to decide how long they maintain their operations.

The plan retains the current concepts: 26 plots for sunbeds and umbrellas, 17 espeteros associated with beach bars, 14 massage tents, three terraces linked to restaurants, 17 public toilets, five beaches adapted for people with disabilities and reduced mobility, three nautical zones (one municipal at La Cala beach) and seven nautical channels, one of which is designated for kite surfing at El Chaparral.
As a new feature, two additional terraces for beach bars will be added, as the General Directorate of Coasts requires an authorization that will be included in the new text. Furthermore, the jumping installation from the El Torreón square will be moved next to the playground behind the Arroyo beach bar, to ease congestion at the access to La Cala beach and unify children's leisure in that area.
The deadline agreed upon between the Beaches Department and businesses to reach a consensus on the text and submit it to the Junta de Andalucía, through the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, ends on September 30. Once validated, the plan will govern the Mijas coastline until 2030.
