The University of Málaga (UMA) has inaugurated the 2026/2027 academic year with the participation of the Secretary General of Universities and Science Industry, Antonio Posadas. In his speech, Posadas highlighted the university's efforts to achieve financial balance, as well as the record funding of €253.3 million provided by the Andalusian government in 2026.
Investments and new academic degrees
During his address, Posadas emphasized the collaboration of the Andalusian government to address the financial situation of UMA. He highlighted the importance of improving educational infrastructures such as the new Faculty of Tourism, with an investment of over €28 million, and the expansion of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, with over €15 million.
This new academic year also marks the launch of six new degrees: the Bachelor's in Market Intelligence and Analytics and several master's programs in areas such as Biotechnology and Executive Management of Tourist Accommodations. Posadas considered that these academic programs position Málaga as a hub of innovation and technology.
Support for students and synergies with industry
Posadas also referred to the measures implemented to support Andalusian students, ensuring that the economic situation should not be an obstacle to accessing higher education. In this regard, efforts were reaffirmed to stabilize university tuition fees and the mention of discounts for credits passed on the first registration.
Furthermore, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of the connection between knowledge and the productive system. This structure aims to retain talent in the region and promote the creation of qualified jobs, reminding that industrial transformations have been driven by the generation of knowledge.
UMA has started this year with a catalogue of 198 degrees and a total of 10,871 new student places, thus promoting a range of opportunities for future students.
