The Marbella Town Hall has completed an intervention to improve signage and traffic management in the Costabella area, in the Las Chapas district, with the aim of increasing road safety.
The Marbella Town Hall has announced the completion of the works to improve signage and traffic management in the Costabella area, in the Las Chapas district. The initiative, carried out by the municipal Traffic delegation, aimed to resolve traffic issues at crossings and the most problematic points in the area, especially in anticipation of the summer season.
The Traffic councillor, Enrique Rodríguez, explained that the main objective has been "to increase road safety, facilitate movement and ensure accessibility" for both residents and visitors, as well as users of local establishments. The intervention has taken into account the needs of residents in this area, which has more than 350 homes and various businesses.
The works included horizontal, vertical signage and marking on streets such as Costa del Sol, Escandinavia, Amberes, Justicia, Madrid, Progreso, Frankfurt, Andalucía and Berlín, as well as in the Granada passage, the avenues Cervantes and Costanera, and the access from the N-340. In total, approximately 4,000 linear metres of road markings, 370 square metres of symbols and zebra crossings, 13 pedestrian crossings and stop lines, as well as 80 square metres of blocking markings have been painted.
Additionally, 66 vertical signs have been installed and relocated, four new parking spaces for people with reduced mobility have been created, and the existing 19 have been repainted. Three blocking zones have also been painted to ensure access to the beaches. These actions complement the comprehensive renovation works of hydraulic infrastructures and road improvements that the Town Hall has carried out this year in the area.
Rodríguez emphasised that the intervention has been completed just before summer, a period when "traffic and the influx of people significantly increase due to being a key access point to the beaches, the rise in residents in the area, and the growth of commercial and hospitality activity." The improvement of crossings and intersections, the reinforcement of signage on main roads, and the enhancement of parking reserves for people with reduced mobility are some of the most notable actions.
The councillor reminded that these works are part of the Comprehensive Signage Plan that the Town Hall is developing throughout the municipality, which continues to advance in improving road safety and mobility in various areas. The action in Costabella represents another step in this plan, which aims to update and standardise signage across the entire municipal area.
