The Marbella City Council and AFISAMP have signed an agreement that ensures care for around 60 users. The annual grant for 2026 amounts to €25,000 and will increase by 15% in 2027.
The Marbella City Council has guaranteed the continuity of the services provided by the Fibromyalgia Association of San Pedro Alcántara (AFISAMP) following the signing of a new collaboration agreement. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and the president of the entity, Teresa Barroso, have formalised the agreement, which will benefit nearly 60 users from the group.
The mayor highlighted the important work carried out by the association “offering support, guidance, and companionship to those affected by this disease and their families to help improve their well-being and quality of life.” The deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier García, also participated in the event, emphasising that “this municipal support responds to the commitment of the City Council to associations that play an essential role in caring for people with specific needs.”
The agreement includes a €25,000 annual grant for 2026, an amount that, as García has indicated, “will be increased by 15 percent in 2027 because their needs continue to grow.” The councillor also praised the work of the professionals and volunteers at AFISAMP, “complementing care that often cannot be provided from other areas.”
For her part, Barroso emphasised that funding is essential to maintain essential services. “Funding makes it possible to maintain psychological care, social work, yoga classes, treatments aimed at muscular well-being, and the rest of the activities we carry out throughout the year, so it is practically committed from the very beginning,” she explained.
The association, which completes its resources through solidarity initiatives such as a second-hand shop or lottery sales, works daily to provide a support space for those living with an illness “that, in many cases, continues to be poorly understood.” Barroso also highlighted that “contact with other people in the same situation provides significant emotional support.”
With this agreement, the Marbella City Council reaffirms its support for a group that provides close and specialised care to residents of San Pedro Alcántara and the rest of the municipality affected by fibromyalgia.
