The Marbella City Council has appointed Marina López García as the general director of Traffic, a freely appointed position with an annual salary of €77,259.
The Marbella City Council has finalised the creation of three new general directorates with the appointment of Marina López García as the general director of Traffic. The Local Government Board, chaired by Mayor Ángeles Muñoz, approved López García's appointment on June 16, which adds to the other two senior positions created in October 2025: Cleaning and RSU, and Employment and Entrepreneurship.
The selection process was conducted by free choice, without the curriculum vitae of the new director being available. Her salary will be €77,259 gross per year, the same amount received by her colleagues Pablo Aragón Santos (Cleaning) and Alejandro Freijo (Employment). With this appointment, the PP government team raises the number of general directors in the City Council to 18, whose salaries total nearly €1.4 million per year.
The creation of these positions was reported by this newspaper in October of last year. The first to be filled was the Cleaning and RSU position, awarded in January to Pablo Aragón Santos. Days later, Alejandro Freijo, brother-in-law of one of the mayor's sons, was promoted to general director of Employment and Entrepreneurship, with a salary increase of €10,000 compared to his previous role as an advisor.
In addition to these three new positions, this year a general director of Beaches, Francisco Espinosa, and a general director of Finance, Marina Quero, have also been hired. Carmen Pallarés, who until October was the general director of Human Resources, was appointed technical coordinator of that same area. Thus, only the general directorate of Urbanism remains vacant, whose functions are assumed by Ignacio Díaz from Projects and Infrastructures.
Among the 18 senior positions are names such as Mario Ruiz Núñez (Mayor's Office, €93,000), Amparo Corral (Works, €80,000) or Laura de Arce (Tourism, €67,000). The total payroll amounts to €1,394,865 annually, according to data provided by the City Council. This expenditure occurs in a context of neighbourhood complaints about traffic chaos in the centre of Marbella, an area that López García will now manage.
The new general director of Traffic will assume responsibilities that were previously shared with Baldomero León, who will continue to head New Technologies and Transport. The City Council has not detailed López García's professional profile or the number of candidates who applied for the position.
