The Marbella City Council has completed 109 conservation and improvement works in the 26 educational centres and three nurseries during the summer campaign. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, visited the CEIP Federico García Lorca to check the results of the work.
The City Council of Marbella has carried out 109 actions for conservation, maintenance and improvement in the 26 educational centres in the city and in the three nurseries during the summer campaign. The aim is for the schools to face the new academic year in the best conditions. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, visited the CEIP Federico García Lorca to learn about the results of the work.
Of the total interventions, 48 have been major works and 61 micro-interventions to address specific needs in masonry, electricity, locksmithing, carpentry, plumbing, sanitation and general maintenance. The mayor explained that planning is concentrated during non-school periods to minimise the impact on students and teachers.
“We maintain ongoing coordination with the management teams to address the needs of the schools throughout the year,” Muñoz pointed out, adding that the holidays “allow us to concentrate those works that require a longer duration or affect spaces of regular use.”
At the CEIP Federico García Lorca, 11 works have been carried out, including the installation of new vinyl flooring in the gym, the replacement of doors on the first floor, and various painting, electrical, plumbing, flooring, guttering and sports field maintenance tasks. The school's director, Daniel Molina, thanked the City Council for its collaboration and responsiveness.
“The improvements allow us to start the school year with renewed spaces ready to welcome students,” Molina assessed, emphasising the coordination maintained with municipal officials.
Among the actions in other centres are the installation of a cover for access to the specific classroom of CEIP Juan Ramón Jiménez, the repair of the roof of the babies' classroom at the Municipal Nursery El Pinar, the renovation of the teachers' toilets at Valdeolletas, the placement of a concealment structure on the stairs of the Xarblanca centre, and the improvement of the safety of the railings in the stairwells of Rafael Fernández Mayoralas. The programme is completed with minor interventions to progressively resolve issues identified by the centres themselves.
Apart from the School Conservation Plan, which is allocated 1.3 million euros annually, the City Council has carried out or is in the process of other works, such as those at CEIP Nuestra Señora del Carmen to improve its electrical installations, fire protection, accessibility and carpentry. There are also plans for actions to optimise electricity consumption and the hygrothermal conditions of various centres through photovoltaic installations and new climate control equipment in classrooms and administrative offices.
