The Malaga municipality has obtained eight flags for its beaches and two for its marinas. Additionally, it has accumulated 19 Q and S certifications for quality and sustainability.
Marbella has hoisted its ten blue flags, a recognition that positions it as the Andalusian municipality with the most awards of this kind and places it among the top ten in Spain. Eight of them fly on the beaches of Cabopino, El Cable, El Faro, La Fontanilla, Nagüeles-Casablanca, Venus-Bajadilla, Los Monteros, and Guadalmina (San Pedro Alcántara); the remaining two are at the Virgen del Carmen Sports Port and Puerto Banús, the latter being privately managed.
A summer with all services
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, has reminded that these distinctions not only reward the natural beauty of the coastline but also the quality of the services provided. "The beaches are as they are, depending on nature, but from there, cleanliness, safety, rescue devices, toilets, and all services are evaluated," she pointed out.
The City Council has launched a special security and emergency device for the summer season, which is already active. 55 lifeguards distributed across 19 rescue modules will monitor the 27 kilometres of coastline in the municipality until September 30.
"Behind these flags is significant teamwork," Muñoz emphasized, thanking the work of the Beaches Delegation, technical staff, and the concession company responsible for maintenance. "We are not only talking about beach bars, sun loungers, or other facilities, but about providing the best possible services to those who enjoy our coastline," she added.
Quality and sustainability, the dual objective
In addition to the blue flags, Marbella has achieved 19 Q for Tourist Quality and S for Sustainability certifications, reinforcing its commitment to responsible tourism. These seals, which are renewed periodically, evaluate aspects such as environmental management, accessibility, and staff training.
For residents and visitors, the news has a direct impact: better-maintained beaches, enhanced lifeguard services, and a more organised leisure offering. "The commitment is to continue improving the quality, sustainability, and safety of the beaches, one of the main tourist and environmental attractions of the municipality," the mayor concluded.
With the high season just around the corner, Marbella is preparing to welcome thousands of tourists backed by its ten blue flags. Once again, the Malaga coastline boasts being a national reference.
