The singer Beret will not perform at the Starlite Occident festival in Marbella, scheduled for July 29, after the EAM requested the suspension. The artist, accused of sexual assault, has cancelled the rest of his tour.

The concert that singer Beret was set to perform at the Starlite Occident Marbella festival has been definitively cancelled. This was confirmed on Tuesday by the Women's Attention and Protection Service of the Women's Attention Team (EAM), which had requested the suspension of the event from the Marbella City Council. The performance was scheduled for July 29.

The EAM based its request on the premise that any activity carried out on public property or spaces must adhere to the principles of equality, non-discrimination, respect for women's fundamental rights, and prevention of gender-based violence. The entity states that the performance will not take place and that ticket sales have also been halted.

Starlite distances itself from the decision

From the Starlite Occident Marbella organisation, they assert that the suspension of the event is something beyond their control and is due to a decision made by the artist, who has cancelled the rest of his tour. The organising entity emphasises that it fully respects the right to the presumption of innocence and the singer's right to defence, and clarifies that it does not make any assessment of the judicial process nor anticipates a judgement of guilt.

For attendees who had already purchased their tickets, the festival organisation has informed that a full refund will be processed. Affected individuals are advised to stay tuned to Starlite's official channels for information on timelines and procedures to follow.

Judicial background of the artist

Singer Beret was arrested on June 11 after a woman reported him for an alleged sexual assault that, according to the investigation, occurred last April in Seville. He was brought before a judge and subsequently released on provisional bail with precautionary measures, including a prohibition on communicating with or approaching the complainant within 500 metres, the withdrawal of his passport for three months, and the obligation to appear periodically before the court while the case continues to be investigated.

Since the allegation became known, Beret has seen the concerts he had booked for this summer suspended, including the one in Marbella. The EAM's decision adds to the social and media pressure surrounding the artist, whose case is still in the judicial investigation phase.

For the residents of Marbella and tourists who were looking forward to the concert, the cancellation means a change of plans for the summer agenda. The Starlite festival continues with the rest of its programme, which includes artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Maluma, and Luis Fonsi. The organisation recommends checking their website for possible replacements or new dates.
