The Manilva Town Hall, together with the Luisana association, has launched a plan to install pictograms in municipal facilities to facilitate their use for people with functional diversity.
The Manilva Town Hall has begun installing pictograms in its municipal buildings to make them more accessible. The initiative, driven by the Social Welfare Delegation and the local association Luisana, starts at the Casa de la Cultura, where Unified Workshops are held.
The aim is for anyone, regardless of their cognitive ability, language, or reading level, to easily identify the function of each facility. This is explained by the Councillor for Social Welfare, Laura Salazar, who highlights the commitment to total accessibility in all municipal facilities.
The pictograms used belong to the universal Arasaac system, a set of freely usable graphic symbols that facilitate communication for people with functional diversity, migrants who do not speak Spanish, or those who cannot read. Each infographic simply explains what service is provided in each room.
The councillor notes that, after the Casa de la Cultura, these signs will be progressively installed in the rest of the municipal buildings in the municipality. The measure aims for residents and visitors of Manilva to navigate public spaces without barriers.
The Luisana association, a local group dedicated to the integration of people with disabilities, collaborates in the design and dissemination of the informative plan. For now, the work focuses on the cultural headquarters, with plans to extend it to other facilities in the coming weeks.
