The Fuengirola City Council has increased staff and frequencies for street cleaning and waste collection during the summer, with special attention to the centre, Las Chozas, the promenade and Los Boliches. Councillor Carmen Díaz reminds of the free services and calls for responsibility.
The Fuengirola City Council has launched a special street cleaning and waste collection operation for the summer months, aiming to maintain the city's image in the areas of highest foot traffic. The councillor responsible for the area, Carmen Díaz, has detailed the measures taken and has made a call for collaboration from residents, shopkeepers, and visitors.
The reinforcement includes an increase in both staff and service frequency, especially in strategic points such as the urban centre, the Las Chozas neighbourhood, the promenade, and Los Boliches. These areas experience higher activity during the summer season, thus requiring special attention.
“At the City Council, we work to provide a cleaning service of the highest quality, adapting it to the needs presented by the city during the summer months. However, this effort will only be fully effective if we have the collaboration of residents, shopkeepers, and visitors,” Díaz pointed out.
The councillor reminded that the Council offers a free door-to-door cardboard collection service for commercial establishments, in order to facilitate recycling and prevent these waste materials from accumulating on public roads. Additionally, during the summer, the extraordinary collection service for excess waste at ecological islands has been reinforced, increasing frequency to address the rise in waste typical of this season.
One aspect that Díaz has particularly emphasised is the compliance with the established schedule for depositing organic waste in containers. During the summer period, the recommended time is from 8:00 PM onwards. The councillor has requested the cooperation of Fuengirola residents, visitors, and hospitality businesses to respect this rule, which helps avoid unpleasant odours and keep the streets in the best possible condition.
Moreover, the City Council provides a free collection service for furniture and household items, although it is necessary to request the pickup in advance by phone. This way, uncontrolled abandonment of these waste materials on public roads is avoided, a practice that can generate cleanliness and coexistence issues.
The municipal cleaning ordinance also establishes the obligation for pet owners to clean up their animals' urine on public roads with water and vinegar. This measure, as Díaz has recalled, aims to minimise odours and contribute to better urban space conservation.
“Fuengirola is a benchmark for the quality of its public services and the cleanliness of its streets. Maintaining that level is a shared responsibility. The City Council provides all necessary means to continue offering an excellent service, but it is essential to have the collaboration and commitment of residents, shopkeepers, and visitors so that together we can continue enjoying a clean and well-kept city,” concluded Carmen Díaz.
