Fuengirola City Council has opened over 200 parking spaces at the Santa Fe-Antonio Basilio Stadium in Los Boliches during July and August, costing two euros a day managed by ADISMA.

The football field at the Santa Fe-Antonio Basilio Stadium, in the Los Boliches neighbourhood, has been converted into a temporary car park with more than 200 spaces. The measure, announced this Wednesday by Mayor Ana Mula, aims to alleviate the lack of parking in the area during the peak tourist months.

A temporary car park until the Los Boliches Complex works begin

The space will be operational until the demolition works of the Los Boliches Complex begin, scheduled for September. In the meantime, the City Council has prepared the playing field surface so that residents and visitors can park their cars. Entry is via Avenida de Las Salinas and exit via Calle Antonio Machado.

The management is handled by the Association of Disabled People of Málaga (ADISMA), which will charge two euros a day per vehicle. This amount will be entirely allocated to the social work of the group. Its president, Salvador Paz, has thanked the City Council for the initiative, which will generate income for their support programs for people with disabilities.

“The drafting work for the Los Boliches Complex project has begun with the necessary geotechnical studies and surveys. This made it necessary to close the sports facilities. In the meantime, we have decided to enable its surface for parking coinciding with the peak months,” explained Ana Mula.

The Los Boliches Complex megaproject underway

The temporary parking is just a preview of the significant transformation the neighbourhood will undergo. The Los Boliches Complex, with an investment of around 50 million euros, is the largest municipal public works project in the history of Fuengirola. It will include an underground mega parking facility with 1,070 spaces, a new Santa Fe-Antonio Basilio stadium with more sports facilities, and a new courthouse with independent access.

The mayor has emphasised that the project addresses three key needs: the lack of parking, the improvement of sports facilities, and a judicial headquarters in line with the city's growth. “We are very excited and are working closely with the awarded UTE to strictly meet the deadlines,” she stated.

For the residents of Los Boliches, this measure provides immediate relief. During July and August, finding parking in the area becomes an odyssey, especially near the beach. Now, for just two euros a day, they can park their cars in a safe place and contribute to a social cause.

The City Council reminds that the parking will be open 24 hours and that access points have been properly signposted. Drivers are advised to follow the indications and respect the entry and exit times to avoid inconveniences.
