The Town Hall of Fuengirola has scheduled a new Summer Cultural Week with practical history workshops for children aged 7 to 14. It will take place from August 4 to 7 at the Roman Archaeological Site of Finca del Secretario.
The Town Hall of Fuengirola has launched a new edition of the Summer Cultural Week, an initiative that combines leisure and learning for children and young people aged between seven and fourteen. The event will take place from August 4 to 7, from eleven in the morning to one in the afternoon, at the Roman Archaeological Site of Finca del Secretario, one of the most prominent heritage sites in the municipality.
Over four days, participants will embark on a journey through different historical periods, from Prehistory to the Middle Ages, through practical workshops and educational activities tailored to their age. Each session will combine historical learning with creativity, allowing attendees to create crafts inspired by each period.
The programme will kick off on Tuesday, August 4, with workshops dedicated to cave painting and the creation of prehistoric idols. Wednesday, August 5, will focus on the Phoenician era, with a workshop on Phoenician art, and on Iberian culture, with an activity on polychromy. Thursday will be dedicated to Ancient Rome, with workshops on polychromy and mythology, while Friday will focus on the Middle Ages, with activities related to tiles and plasterwork.
In addition to the workshops, each day will include a guided tour of the archaeological site, group dynamics, and the creation of an archaeological reproduction in the workshop. This way, participants will be able to learn firsthand about the history of this site and experience how ancient civilisations worked.
The activities are organised in groups of between fifteen and twenty participants. Although it is recommended to attend all four days to complete the historical journey and receive a certificate, it will also be possible to participate in individual days. Participation is free, and registrations can be made by sending an email to meniarestauracion@gmail.com, indicating 'Summer Workshop' in the subject line.
The Councillor for Culture of the Town Hall of Fuengirola, Rodrigo Romero, explained that this initiative is part of the cultural programme designed by the Council for the summer months, aimed at providing quality leisure alternatives for young people during the school holidays. "We want children and young people to enjoy a different summer, where they can have fun while learning and discovering the important historical heritage that our city possesses," Romero stated.
The councillor encouraged families in Fuengirola to enroll their children in this summer proposal and highlighted that "this is a magnificent opportunity for the little ones to enjoy a different holiday, where they will combine leisure, culture, creativity, and the discovery of one of the most important heritage spaces in Fuengirola."
The Summer Cultural Week thus consolidates itself as a regular event in the municipality's summer agenda, offering an educational and recreational alternative that brings archaeology closer to young people in an enjoyable and participatory way.
