The Town Hall of Fuengirola has presented a new edition of the Special Summer Cultural Week, which will take place from August 4 to 7 at the Archaeological Site of the Finca del Secretario, featuring free workshops and guided tours for children aged 7 to 14.
The Councillor for Culture of Fuengirola, Rodrigo Romero, detailed that the initiative will run from 11:00 to 13:00 and will offer a journey through different historical periods via practical workshops and educational activities. Participants will learn about Prehistory, Phoenicians, Iberians, Rome, and the Middle Ages while creating crafts.
Workshops by Day: From Cave Painting to Medieval Plasterwork
The programme kicks off on Tuesday, August 4, with activities focused on cave painting and the creation of prehistoric idols. Wednesday, August 5, will be dedicated to Phoenician art and Iberian polychromy, while on Thursday, attendees will explore Ancient Rome with workshops on polychromy and mythology. Friday will conclude with the Middle Ages, featuring proposals on tiles and plasterwork.
Each day includes a guided tour of the archaeological site, group dynamics, and the creation of an archaeological reproduction in the workshop. According to Romero, the experience allows children to "get to know the history of this site firsthand and experience how ancient civilisations worked."
Small Groups and Free Participation
The activities are organised in groups of 15 to 20 participants. Although it is recommended to attend all four days to complete the journey and receive a diploma, it is also possible to sign up for individual days. Registration is free and must be done by sending an email to meniarestauracion@gmail.com with the subject “SUMMER WORKSHOP”.
The councillor emphasised that the Summer Cultural Week aims to provide a quality leisure alternative during school holidays, combining fun and learning. “We want children and young people to enjoy a different summer, where they can have fun while learning and discovering the important historical heritage our city possesses,” Romero stated.
The Finca del Secretario is one of the most significant Roman sites on the Costa del Sol, with remains of a villa and baths. The initiative allows young residents of Fuengirola to connect with their local history in an engaging and participatory way.
For interested families, the activity represents a unique opportunity for children to fill their August mornings with a cost-free educational proposal. Places are limited, so early reservation is recommended.
