The Sports Department is organizing three 'Running Meetups' and advisory points along the promenade to support the 2,400 registrants, of whom 1,700 are debuting in the event.

Fuengirola is gearing up for its IX Half Marathon, which will take place in November and has over 2,400 registrants. To ensure that no one reaches the starting line without proper preparation, the Sports Department has designed a support program that includes three group training sessions and information points along the promenade throughout August.

The Sports Councillor, Julio Rodríguez, presented the initiative on Monday, which aims to particularly assist the high number of newcomers: of the 2,400 runners signed up, around 1,700 will be tackling the 21 kilometers for the first time. “We want to support them in this process so they arrive at the start with the best possible preparation,” said the councillor.

The so-called 'Running Meetups' will take place on August 28, September 26, and October 17, always at 20:00 hours. The first meetup will start from the sculpture of the Banco de Boquerones, on the Torreblanca promenade, and will be open to runners of any level.

The sessions will be led by the technicians from the Half Marathon team, Agustín Molina, Rocío Sibajas, and Alberto Valdés. Participants will combine continuous running with strengthening exercises for the upper body, lower body, and abdominal area, in addition to receiving technical guidelines to tackle the distance with confidence.

Advisory points along the promenade

As a complement, three information points will be set up along the promenade throughout August, operational on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 11:00 hours. They will be located at the Banco de Boquerones, the Peseta monument, and the Theresa Zabell square.

At these points, runners can resolve questions about summer training, hydration, heat stroke prevention, preparation planning, rest, and effort progression. There will also be training plans tailored to different levels and guidelines to approach the event with confidence.

Rodríguez emphasized that the goal is for the Half Marathon “to be not just a competition, but also a healthy and accessible experience for everyone.” The event, which celebrates its ninth edition, has established itself as one of the prominent sporting events in the local calendar, and the Town Hall wants participants to enjoy the preparation as much as the race.

Those interested can attend the meetups or information points directly, without prior registration. The first 'Running Meetup' will be on August 28 at 20:00 hours in Torreblanca, a great time to start racking up kilometers while summer is still present.
