The Marbella City Council has completed the creation of 113 new surface parking spaces on Maíz Viñals Avenue, an initiative that will serve the residents of Santa Marta, Pilar Miraflores, and the area around La Represa park.
The Marbella City Council has announced the completion of works that have enabled the establishment of 113 new surface parking spaces on Maíz Viñals Avenue, an initiative aimed at addressing the high demand for parking in one of the fastest-growing areas of the city.
The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, visited the area this week to assess the results of an intervention that has been carried out in phases as part of the District Maintenance Plan, with the aim of minimising traffic disruptions during the works. The mayor highlighted that the initiative “responds to a request made by both community groups and district directors.”
The new spaces are distributed as follows: 22 linear spaces on the uphill branch towards the Salvador Rueda roundabout, 25 on the downhill branch, and 66 angled spaces on the main road, next to the Cristo del Amor bridge. Additionally, the pavement, sidewalks, supply networks, drainage, public lighting, signage, and road safety elements have been renewed.
This initiative comes after the City Council has undertaken a comprehensive renovation of La Represa park in recent years, which has included the renewal of the children's play area, the creation of the central library Fernando Alcalá Marín, the opening of a café, the addition of new sports courts, the completion of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Training Centre, and the construction of a new ‘pump track’ for BMX practice.
“This space will serve not only the Old Town but also numerous neighbourhoods in Marbella, so it was necessary to reinforce the infrastructure that complements its transformation,” stated Muñoz.
The mayor emphasised that “the expansion of parking was an essential step to respond to the increase in users that the area is experiencing” and acknowledged that “one of the main challenges is finding spaces to create new parking areas.” In this regard, she recalled that the project for the future parking facility at the Albergue África is already underway, which will exceed 600 spaces and will provide significant relief for the city centre.
With this new parking area, the City Council aims to facilitate access to the recently renovated public facilities in the La Represa area, a zone that has seen an increase in visitors and users. The new spaces are now operational for drivers approaching this area of Marbella.
