The Parque de La Represa will host from October 9 to 12 the third edition of the event, featuring cuisine, music, and folklore from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela. On October 8, the CAE La Alcoholera in San Pedro Alcántara will host the pre-concert 'Music of the Americas'.
Marbella will celebrate the third edition of the Festival of Hispanicity from October 9 to 12 at the Parque de La Represa, with a programme that will bring together cuisine, music, folklore, and traditions from ten countries. As a prelude, the October 8 concert 'Music of the Americas' will be held, organised in conjunction with the American International Club at the CAE La Alcoholera in San Pedro Alcántara.
The advisor for Resident Foreigners, Remedios Bocanegra, presented the event alongside the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and noted that the festival aims to highlight the cultural richness of the participating countries.
“With this event, we want to showcase all the cultural richness that unites us with so many brother countries that are here with us enjoying the best of each one”
Bocanegra added that the event goes beyond a date on the calendar: “It is to remember what unites us, a common language shared by more than 600 million people worldwide, but above all the history and roots of which we are so proud.”
This third edition will represent Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela, communities that currently comprise 13,913 registered residents in the municipality. The advisor highlighted that the City Council works throughout the year with foreign associations and groups: “Our locality is an example of coexistence and integration, and this festival is the best reflection of that joint work.”
During the four days, each country will have its own space in La Represa to showcase its traditions and culinary specialties. Argentina will offer wines from Mendoza and Salta, parrillada, empanadas, and dulce de leche, along with a performance by Roxana Carabajal on Sunday the 11th at 18:00. Colombia will bring cumbia, currulao, and bambuco alongside arepas, empanadas, stuffed potatoes, aborrajados, santarrosano chorizo, and chicharrón.
Cuba will expand its offerings with tamales, congrí, ropa vieja, and roast pork, as well as mojitos, daiquiris, and piña colada, with live music from Moni Kabana. Ecuador will showcase the diversity of its four regions with performances by Luz de América, Negritos de Marbella, and Reina del Cisne, along with guest artist Ricky. Mexico will be represented by the restaurant Mulita and the Dúo Mariachi Jalisco.
The booth for Paraguay, organised by the cultural group Paraguayo sin Fronteras, will include sopa paraguaya, chipa guazú, and borí borí, along with performances by the dance group Koraí Paraguay de Marbella and artist Talin. Peru, through the Asociación Cori Peruanos en Marbella, will offer ceviche, causa limeña, ají de gallina, and anticuchos, along with a pisco tasting and a performance by Unidos Perú on Sunday the 11th at 19:00.
Venezuela will be represented by the Asociación Venemar and the restaurant Gochi Gourmet, with arepas, empanadas, tequeños, and cachapas, as well as a performance by dancer and performer Nixon Rodríguez. Bolivia will showcase dishes such as salteñas, majadito, pique macho, and peanut soup, accompanied by dances like caporales, cueca, and morenada. Chile will offer a display of its traditional cuisine and a musical tribute to Víctor Jara.
The artistic programme will be completed with around 40 performances, including proposals from participating associations and professional flamenco and tango shows. The representative of the collaborating production company, Sebastián Gosatti, noted that “the festival grows every year” and described the gathering as “a weekend of coexistence, friendship, learning, exchanging, and also eating a lot.”
The concert 'Music of the Americas' will be the prelude to the four days. The president of the American International Club, Lucca Movaldi, explained that it is a non-profit concert conceived “with the hope of sharing the musical and cultural richness of the Americas.” The evening will feature Colombian soprano Marcela Daza and the duo Alonso de Proteau, formed by pianists Mercedes Alonso and Pierre Proteau.
The vice president of the entity, Milagros Hoffmeier, highlighted the artistic difficulty of the four-hand interpretation, whose goal is to ensure that “with two, the audience has the sensation of a single pianist.” The festival will take place at the Parque de La Represa from October 9 to 12, with free access for all audiences.
