The Fuengirola City Council and Red Cross are launching a new edition of the Active Maintenance Workshop for seniors aged 65 and over. It begins on October 13, will be held every Tuesday at 10:30 AM, and registrations can now be formalised at Blanca Paloma Street.

The Fuengirola City Council, through the Elderly Department, and Red Cross have presented a new edition of the Active Maintenance Workshop, aimed at residents aged 65 and over in the municipality. The activity will kick off on October 13 and will take place every Tuesday at 10:30 AM, with monitors from the Spanish Red Cross.

Registrations can be formalised at the Elderly Department's offices, located at Blanca Paloma Street, from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM. The Councillor for Families, Equality and Social Welfare and head of the Elderly Department, Cristina Bornao, and the representative of the Local Assembly of the Red Cross, Claudia Hernández, have detailed how the programme will operate.

The workshop combines physical exercise (agility, strength and coordination) with cognitive and psychosocial activities: games, talks and community dynamics. It also includes guidelines for a healthy lifestyle, memory reinforcement, stimulation of mobility and senses, and actions to promote intergenerational relationships.

“In addition to promoting exercise and maintaining physical and cognitive abilities, it has an important social component,” noted Bornao, who added that the activity “encourages interaction among participants, the exchange of experiences and concerns, and the creation of new bonds, helping to combat isolation and unwanted loneliness.”

The municipal official has praised the collaboration of the Red Cross Fuengirola in this initiative, which offers seniors a space for participation, learning and community. The City Council encourages residents over 65 who are interested to join this new edition.
