The Estepona Town Hall has completed the underground network channels for the future boulevard, while the foundation of the underground parking has reached 75% completion. Work is progressing on Juan Carlos I Avenue, and it is expected that the parking structure will be ready in September.
The works on the new Estepona boulevard, which will transform the axis of San Lorenzo, Juan Carlos I, and España avenues, have reached a new milestone. The Estepona Town Hall has reported that the underground network channels — electricity, telecommunications, drinking water, irrigation, and sewage — are now completely finished. This progress allows for the continuation of surface urbanisation and the construction of the underground parking, a key component of the project.
On Juan Carlos I Avenue, urbanisation works have reached 60% completion. Machines are already working on connecting this road with San Roque and Melilla streets, a necessary step to restore the continuity of vehicular and pedestrian traffic in the area. Meanwhile, pedestrian traffic on San Lorenzo Avenue and access from España Avenue are already open, which has restored the east-west connection of the area.
The underground parking, which will offer more than 300 spaces, is progressing as planned. The foundation is 75% complete and is expected to be finished in August. The intermediate slab is at 50% completion, while the roof has reached 40%. The municipal forecast is for the entire structure to be completed during September.
This boulevard represents the culmination of Estepona's urban transformation, which has already turned the old N-340 into a nationally recognised promenade. The new infrastructure will connect this promenade with the historic centre, known as the 'Garden of the Costa del Sol', creating a continuous and pleasant route for pedestrians.
The underground parking will be integrated into the municipal parking network at one euro per day, an initiative aimed at promoting sustainable mobility and discouraging car use in the centre. In addition to spaces for cars, the boulevard will feature areas for taxis, loading and unloading, motorcycles, electric vehicles, and bicycles. Above ground, the design includes squares, walkways, water features, and green areas, intended as meeting points for residents and visitors.
For the residents of Estepona, the progress of the works represents a tangible improvement in their daily lives. The opening of pedestrian access has already facilitated movement in the area, and when the boulevard is complete, it is expected to enhance the surroundings and improve quality of life. The Town Hall emphasises that this intervention consolidates the model of a friendly, green city open to the sea that has made Estepona a benchmark on the Costa del Sol.
The works continue according to the planned schedule, with no new traffic interruptions announced. Drivers are advised to follow the provisional signage and pedestrians to use the designated crossings. The complete finishing of the boulevard is expected in the coming months, although the Town Hall has not provided a specific date.
