The aim of the project is to improve accessibility in the central area of the port and enhance the pedestrian character of the environment. The proposed solution maintains vehicular traffic throughout the street through a shared surface that prioritises pedestrians and organises the coexistence of different uses.
The councillor for the Marina, José Luis Bergillos, has stated that the approval of the terms represents "a new step towards continuing the transformation and modernisation of the Marina, in this case acting on a fundamental space like La Fragata street and responding to the needs conveyed to us by those who live and conduct their economic activities in this area".
The project also includes the redesign of the roundabout located in front of Kaleido, which will become a distinctive and recognisable point of the port, and the refurbishment of the tourist boat area, with new shaded areas and vegetation and a more direct relationship between the promenade and the sea.
"We want to achieve a more accessible, comfortable, and attractive space, while maintaining vehicle circulation and balancing the needs of residents, merchants, users, and visitors," said Bergillos, who emphasised that "the project has been agreed upon in meetings and working groups that included residents and merchants".
The approach to the project has been previously agreed upon with local residents and merchants through meetings and working groups, according to the City Council. Once the contract is awarded, the responsible team will have five months to draft the project, which will establish the final technical specifications and allow for the continuation of the procedures prior to the execution of the works.
