The Benalmádena Town Hall has launched a new edition of the 'We Care for the Planet' workshops at Fuente de la Salud beach, featuring activities on recycling and marine protection.
The Benalmádena Town Hall kicked off a new edition of the environmental workshops 'We Care for the Planet' on Monday, an initiative aimed at raising awareness among residents and tourists about the importance of preserving the coastline. The mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, and the councillor for Beaches, Presi Aguilera, attended the first session held at Fuente de la Salud beach.
The activity will move to Torrebermeja beach on Tuesday, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. Participants will be able to engage in educational and recreational activities designed to learn how to care for the environment while enjoying the coastal setting.
Lara highlighted that “we want our beaches to also be spaces for learning and awareness. Through these activities, we bring environmental education closer to residents and visitors, especially the youngest, fostering responsible habits that contribute to conserving our coastline.”
The mayor added that “Benalmádena continues to bet on a sustainable municipal model, where the enjoyment of our beaches always goes hand in hand with respect for the environment and the conservation of our natural resources.”
For her part, Presi Aguilera stated that “from the Beaches Department, we work year-round to maintain our coastline in the best conditions, and these actions complement that effort by promoting citizen involvement in caring for our beaches and the marine environment.”
The workshops include practical activities on recycling and reusing materials, educational games, crafts, and dynamics to raise awareness about marine ecosystem conservation, respecting minimum fishing sizes, and water conservation. The format is participatory and adapted for all ages.
With this initiative, the Benalmádena Town Hall reinforces its commitment to sustainability and environmental education, promoting the protection of one of the municipality's main natural assets: its beaches. This year's edition aims to involve both residents and visitors in caring for the coastline, a key resource for local tourism.
The councillor for Beaches reminded that the area carries out maintenance work throughout the year and that these actions complement that work, fostering citizen participation. The workshops are part of a broader environmental awareness strategy that the council develops in various parts of the municipality.
The mayor emphasized that environmental education is a priority for the local government, especially in a coastal municipality like Benalmádena, where the beaches are a fundamental attraction. “Caring for our environment is everyone's responsibility, and with these activities, we want each person to feel like an active part of that task,” he stated.
Participants at the first session at Fuente de la Salud were able to engage in games about waste separation and crafts using recycled materials. The initiative has been well received by families, who see these workshops as an opportunity for children to learn environmental values in a fun way.
This Tuesday, Torrebermeja beach will host the same proposal, with free entry and no prior registration required. The Town Hall encourages residents and visitors to join this experience, which combines leisure and ecological awareness.
Benalmádena continues its commitment to sustainable tourism, integrating environmental education into the leisure offerings of its beaches. The 'We Care for the Planet' initiative is solidifying as a recurring event in the municipality's summer calendar, aiming to generate a positive impact on the conservation of the coastline.
