A contingent of 27 firefighters and 12 vehicles from the Provincial Consortium of Málaga is leaving tonight for Ávila to assist in extinguishing the fire that has already devastated over 50,000 hectares.
The Antequera fire station has become the departure point for the operation that the Provincial Consortium of Firefighters (CPB) of Málaga will send to the province of Ávila. The aim is to reinforce the firefighting efforts for the large fire declared in the town of Burgohondo, which has now become the largest recorded in Spain.
The contingent, which will begin to depart around 23:00 hours this Monday, consists of 11 personnel and five vehicles from the Antequera station, including two heavy trucks and three light ones. They will be joined by firefighters from the stations in Fuengirola, Marbella, and Benalmádena, bringing the total to 27 professionals and 12 vehicles mobilised from the province of Málaga.
The request for assistance came from the Diputación de Ávila and has been channelled through the Association of Consortiums and Fire Services of Spain (Conbé). The intention is for the Málaga firefighters to integrate as soon as possible into the operation already working on the ground to control a fire that has affected over 50,000 hectares.
The president of the Diputación de Málaga, Francisco Salado, has expressed the institution's solidarity with the affected population and emphasised the importance of cooperation between administrations in emergencies of this magnitude. According to Salado, the rapid response of the Provincial Consortium demonstrates the commitment of public services to the protection of people and the willingness to support other territories when the situation requires it.
The tasks that the Málaga firefighters will undertake include direct extinguishing efforts, protection of inhabited areas, logistical support, and infrastructure defence. The weather conditions, with high temperatures and wind, continue to complicate the work in the area, where the fire is advancing uncontrollably.
This fire, which has already ravaged an area equivalent to more than 70,000 football fields, has forced the evacuation of several towns and keeps the entire province of Ávila on edge. The arrival of reinforcements from Málaga, along with those from other autonomous communities, aims to halt its advance and protect the population and natural resources.
For the residents of the province of Málaga, this mobilisation is a source of pride, but also a reminder of the importance of solidarity between territories in emergency situations. The Provincial Consortium of Firefighters has previously collaborated in forest fires outside the province, such as the major fire in the Sierra de la Estrella in Portugal or in the province of Huelva.
The Málaga contingent is expected to arrive in Ávila during the early hours and will be made available to the operation's commanders to begin work as soon as possible. The priority is to contain the advance of the flames and prevent them from affecting more populated areas.
