The Spanish Association Against Cancer in Marbella and the company Tu Primer Hogar have sealed a three-year alliance to sponsor the Gala Dinner and the charity golf tournament, two key events in fundraising.
The local branch of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Marbella has gained a new and solid ally in its fight against the disease. The company Tu Primer Hogar, specialised in facilitating access to housing for young people, has committed to being the main sponsor of the Gala Dinner and the charity golf tournament for the next three years. This was announced by Santiago Gómez-Villares, president of the AECC in Marbella, and Francisco Gómez Palma, president-CEO of Tu Primer Hogar, at a meeting also attended by Amalia Acero, a cancer patient.
The alliance goes beyond financial support. As explained by Francisco Gómez Palma, the company will not only provide funding but will also act as a voice for the association's work. “When we got to know Santiago and his team's work closely, we saw total coherence with our commitment as a company: we try to respond to the serious problem of access to housing, they are the home to shelter in when life strikes,” he stated.
Tu Primer Hogar thus takes on the main sponsorship of two of the most important events in the AECC's fundraising agenda in Marbella. The Gala Dinner and the charity golf tournament are events that each year mobilise companies, institutions, and individuals from the Costa del Sol to raise funds for the free services offered by the association. The continuity of support for three years will allow the AECC to plan its care programs with stability.
“The continuity of support allows us to continue funding and increasing our services, which are completely free, and to ensure that they reach those who need them most,” emphasised Santiago Gómez-Villares. The AECC in Marbella serves users from around fifteen municipalities in the area, from Marbella and Estepona to Mijas and Fuengirola. In the last financial year alone, it conducted 2,318 sessions of care and support and assisted 647 people through its various services: psychological support, social care, voluntary accompaniment, financial aid, and quality of life improvement programs.
One of the priority destinations for the raised funds is cancer research. Gómez-Villares recalled that last year, at the provincial level, the AECC contributed more than 810,000 euros to research projects. “Research saves lives. Our goal is to achieve a 70% survival rate by 2030,” he stated. Another key resource is the residential flats in Málaga for patients and families who must travel from their place of residence to receive treatment, a service that humanises the cancer experience and removes barriers.
For Amalia Acero, a cancer patient, the involvement of companies like Tu Primer Hogar is essential: “When companies, entities, and citizens come together, they help build a more humane and supportive society. That support allows many people to access resources, services, and programs that improve their quality of life during illness.”
The alliance between the AECC and Tu Primer Hogar is part of a growing trend of collaboration between the private sector and social entities on the Costa del Sol. The company, which was born with the purpose of helping young people access housing without the barriers of traditional entry, believes that its social responsibility cannot be limited to its main activity. “A company cannot look the other way in the face of the real needs of its environment,” concluded Francisco Gómez Palma.
The Gala Dinner and the charity golf tournament will be held on dates yet to be confirmed, but the AECC is already working on the organisation of both events with the guarantee of having a firm sponsor for the next three years.
