The Beaches Department is organising three afternoons of stories and games in Pepe El Boticario Square on August 10, 14, and 17, to teach children to care for the coastline.
The municipality of Rincón de la Victoria launched a programme of environmental education workshops aimed at young children this Monday. The initiative, promoted by the Beaches Department, takes place in Pepe El Boticario Square over three days in August, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
The first session, held today, is dedicated to flora and fauna. Participants will listen to a story about the natural world and then take part in a discussion about mammals, reptiles, birds, and the impact of climate change.
The Beaches Councillor, Sergio Díaz, highlighted that these spaces along the coastline serve “as places for learning and awareness, where young children can enjoy themselves while acquiring knowledge that they can later take home.”
“Caring for our beaches, properly separating waste, and using water responsibly are small gestures that, when added together, have great importance for our environment,” Díaz added.
The second workshop, on Friday, August 14, will focus on recycling. Through a story and participatory activities, children will learn to separate waste, identify containers, and understand the 3 R's rule: reduce, reuse, and recycle.
The programme will conclude on Monday, August 17, with a session on responsible water consumption. It will cover the water cycle, the consequences of climate change, and tips for saving water in beach showers and at home.
The mayor, Francisco Salado, emphasised “the importance of addressing environmental education from an early age, in an enjoyable and participatory way, promoting values and habits related to environmental protection.”
The three days combine story reading with participatory dynamics and small group discussions, tailored to the age of the attendees. The aim is for learning to occur through play and participation.
The activities are free and do not require prior registration. It is recommended to wear comfortable clothing and sun protection, as they are held outdoors in the height of summer.
