Vélez-Málaga City Council has put out to tender the urbanisation works of Cristo de Medinaceli street, an intervention that residents have been requesting for years and which will have a base budget of €406,368.54, VAT included. The project, promoted by the Infrastructure Department, anticipates an execution period of four months.
The mayor, Jesús Lupiáñez, announced on Tuesday the start of the procedure, which will completely transform a road that required comprehensive action. "Today we take a very important step for the residents of Cristo de Medinaceli street. After many years of waiting, this action is now out to tender and, therefore, we are much closer to turning a historic demand into reality," he stated.
A comprehensive action with new services
The works include the complete paving of the street and the execution of new underground infrastructures to ensure urban services. The project includes a roadway five metres wide, a pavement on the north side, and a pedestrian passage that will connect with the road to the south, as well as addressing existing slopes and enhancing pedestrian safety.
The intervention will involve the installation and renewal of sewage networks, water supply, stormwater collection, public lighting, low voltage, and telecommunications. Regarding lighting, LED lights will be installed with dual power level systems to reduce energy consumption.
Retaining walls, new stairs, and protective elements will also be executed. The current wooden railing of the viewpoint, which is in poor condition, will be replaced with a new cast iron one.
A resident demand that is progressing
Lupiáñez highlighted that this action responds to a demand maintained for years by local residents. "We are talking about an action that goes far beyond just fixing a street. We are going to equip it with the infrastructures it needs, improve accessibility, renew services, and ensure that residents can enjoy a much safer and more suitable environment," he explained.
The mayor expressed hope that the tendering process would proceed normally so that the works could begin as soon as possible. "We know that residents have waited a long time for this action and we fully understand their demand. That’s why our priority has been to work so that today we can announce that the works are out to tender," he added.
Interested parties will be able to submit their offers through the contracting profile of Vélez-Málaga City Council. The execution period will be four months once the works are awarded.
