The Catrinas and Calaveras Parade in Benalmádena takes place on Friday, 23rd October, with activities for the whole family. The day starts at the Los Nadales Fairgrounds and concludes with the opening of the Altar de Muertos.
The Los Nadales Fairgrounds in Benalmádena will be the starting point for the Catrinas and Calaveras Parade, which takes place on Friday, 23rd October. The Councillor for Culture, Jésica Trujillo, presented the event, a celebration linked to the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead.
The day begins at 5:00 PM with a children's makeup workshop, which runs until 7:00 PM. Participation requires prior reservation via the email provided by the Town Hall.
Between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the show ‘Coco, the Musical’ will be performed, a musical set against the backdrop of the Day of the Dead.
At 7:00 PM, the parade will commence from Los Nadales. The route follows San Miguel Street, Chorrillo Avenue, and Juan Luis Peralta Avenue, ending at the Plaza de las Tres Culturas.
The street parade includes the batucada Batukatá, live music from the mariachi Tequila, and monumental figures inspired by traditional Day of the Dead characters. Attendees are encouraged to dress as catrinas, alebrijes, monarch butterflies, adelitas, marías, or other characters from this celebration.
At the end of the route, the traditional Altar de Muertos from the Felipe Orlando Pre-Columbian Museum will be opened to the public.
The organization also plans to provide spaces adapted for people with special needs or reduced mobility, both in the show and along the route. Those who need it can request a reserved spot via an email set up for this purpose.
The parade is linked to the legacy of Felipe Orlando, founder of the museum that bears his name, and has the collaboration of the Mexican community residing in Benalmádena.
