The City Council of Málaga and the Royal Spanish Hockey Federation have renewed their agreement for the 'Visit Málaga' brand to appear on the kits of the national teams during the World Championship to be held in August in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The tourist brand of Málaga, 'Visit Málaga', will once again be present on the shirts of the Spanish men's and women's hockey teams during the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from August 15 to 30 in Belgium and the Netherlands. The agreement, renewed between the City Council of Málaga and the Royal Spanish Hockey Federation (RFEH), was presented this Tuesday in the Mirror Hall of the city council.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, the president of the RFEH, Santiago Deó, and the councillors for Sports and Tourism, Borja Vivas and Jacobo Florido. They all highlighted the importance of linking the city's image to top-level international sporting competitions.
The 'Visit Málaga' logo will be incorporated on the back of the official kits of both national teams throughout the tournament. In this way, the City Council aims to strengthen the international projection of the destination and reach new markets through elite sports. The brand will have visibility in all matches played by the Spanish teams in one of the most prestigious events on the field hockey calendar.
The World Cup will take place in two venues: the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam and the Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium. The Spanish men's team has been placed in a group with Australia, Ireland, and South Africa. Meanwhile, the women's team will share a group with Belgium, New Zealand, and Ireland.
Both teams arrive at the World Cup after a notable European Championship in 2025, where they won the bronze medal. The men's team, led by Max Caldas, defeated France 2-0 in the third-place match, while the women's team, coached by Carlos García Cuenca, overcame Belgium in the shoot-out. Notably, during that European Championship, the men's team already displayed the 'Visit Málaga' logo on their official shirt.
The renewal of the agreement continues an initiative that began in November 2024, when Málaga became the first Spanish city to promote itself on the shirt of the men's hockey team during an international competition. On that occasion, the brand was present in eight matches of the FIH Pro League 2025, held in Australia and India, two countries with a strong tradition in this sport.
That experience helped to reinforce Málaga's presence in strategic markets and solidified a promotional formula that is now expanding to the World Cup, the biggest showcase for world hockey. For the City Council, this collaboration represents a unique opportunity to showcase the city to a global audience, especially in countries where hockey is a mass sport.
Mayor Francisco de la Torre emphasized during the presentation that sports is an excellent vehicle for tourism promotion and that Málaga continues to invest in international events to position itself as a quality destination. For his part, Santiago Deó thanked the City Council for its support and highlighted that the presence of 'Visit Málaga' on the shirts adds value to the image of the teams.
Málaga fans will be able to follow the World Cup through television broadcasts and the RFEH's social media, where it is expected that the 'Visit Málaga' brand will have a significant impact. The sporting event will kick off on August 15 and will run until the 30th, with the final at the Wagener Stadium in Amsterdam.
