In Málaga, the Minister of Development and Mobility of the Junta de Andalucía, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, participated in the Sectorial Transport Conference of the Ministry, where he demanded a significant increase in investment in railway infrastructure and greater agility in its execution.
Muñoz-Atanet expressed his concern over the deterioration of Cercanías services and the slow progress of major railway projects in the community. During his speech, he emphasised that many projects are stalled, such as the railway connection between Santa Justa and San Pablo, as well as the coastal train of the Costa del Sol.
Demands to the Ministry of Transport
In his presentation, the minister outlined the main demands of Andalusia to the Ministry in three areas: increasing investment in railway maintenance, strengthening the involvement of autonomous communities in decision-making, and accelerating the execution of pending projects. Muñoz-Atanet indicated that it is crucial to listen to the needs of the territory to advance in priority infrastructures.
Additionally, the minister requested that drafts of future regulations be sent to working groups in advance, allowing for prior analysis before approval.
Regarding the state road network, Muñoz-Atanet pointed out the deterioration in several corridors and requested that conservation and resurfacing plans be intensified. He highlighted that many citizens are turning to the road due to deficiencies in the railway system, making this request even more urgent.
Examples of critical situations
The minister mentioned examples of congestion, such as the traffic jams on the A-7 passing through Málaga and on the AP-4 between Sevilla and Cádiz. He urged the Ministry to combine the planning of major works with temporary solutions that can immediately alleviate congestion.
Muñoz-Atanet also rejected the composition of the future Territorial Forum for Sustainable Mobility, arguing that it does not guarantee adequate representation of the autonomous communities. He also requested that the new road transport concession map be discussed at the next meeting of the Sectorial Conference.
At the meeting, the minister was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Development, Eduardo Gutiérrez, and the Director of Mobility and Transport, José Miguel Casasola.
