Andalusia demands more investment in transport infrastructure at Sectorial Conference

In Málaga, the Councillor for Development and Mobility of the Junta de Andalucía, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, participated in the Sectorial Conference on Transport, where he demanded greater investment in rail and road infrastructure. This meeting of the Ministry of Transport, which had not been held for four years, was considered crucial for dialogue between the autonomous communities and the central government.

Investment demands and urgency

Muñoz-Atanet lamented the absence of Minister Óscar Puente, emphasising the importance of this forum to open channels of dialogue. During his speech, he expressed the Junta's concern over the deterioration of commuter services and the slow progress of major railway projects in Andalusia, such as the Santa Justa-San Pablo connection and the coastal train of the Costa del Sol.

The councillor highlighted that, although feasibility studies exist, tangible progress in infrastructure is limited. Therefore, he called for an increase in investment in railway maintenance and for the participation of the autonomous communities in the ministry's decisions.

Road situation in Andalusia

In terms of roads, the head of Development warned about the deterioration in several important corridors and the growing need for maintenance and resurfacing. He highlighted critical congestion situations on routes such as the A-7 in Málaga and the AP-4 between Sevilla and Cádiz.

Muñoz-Atanet proposed combining the planning of large infrastructures with temporary solutions to improve mobility. He highlighted the intervention carried out by the Junta in the Málaga Technological Park, which managed to alleviate the area's historic traffic jams.

Finally, he urged the Ministry to expedite the processing of ongoing works in Andalusia and to consider measures that reduce traffic disruptions during these works. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the composition of the future Territorial Forum for Sustainable Mobility, arguing that it does not adequately represent the autonomous communities.

The Sectorial Conference concluded with Muñoz-Atanet's promise to send the ministry a list of pending infrastructures, in order to address the most urgent needs of the transport system in Andalusia.
