The Junta of Andalucía announces the Public Transport Management Centre for 2027 in Málaga

In Málaga, during the inauguration of the Greencities forum, the councillor for Development and Mobility of the Junta of Andalucía, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, announced that the Public Transport Management and Control Centre of Andalucía will begin operations in 2027.

This centre will monitor the status of transport services in real time and is part of an effort to modernise the public transport system in the region. The announcement was made at the Palace of Fairs and Congresses of Málaga, in the presence of the city’s mayor, Francisco de la Torre, and the president of the Spanish Network of Smart Cities, José de la Uz.

Objectives of the Transport Management Centre

Muñoz-Atanet emphasised the importance of improving connectivity in cities and the need for public transport to provide reassurance to users. “This will allow for better planning of their journeys, knowing when their transport will arrive and having greater certainty about reaching their destination,” he added.

The councillor highlighted that the future Coordination Centre for the Management and Control of Public Transport will play a fundamental role, providing updated and reliable information to users. The centre will be equipped with suitable furniture, technological infrastructure, and a large videowall that will offer a global view of the transport system.

Phases of implementation and network expansion

The first phase of the centre will focus on monitoring all transport in the Andalucía Consortium network, which is expanding and aims to reach over 150 million passengers, double the number recorded in 2019. Muñoz-Atanet assured that the information collected “will serve to make better decisions and provide a better service to citizens,” emphasising that smart mobility is not just about technology, but about providing accurate data on available transport options.
