Investment to strengthen industry and technology in Andalucía
In Málaga, the Junta of Andalucía has announced an investment of over 1.6 billion euros aimed at programmes and incentives that seek to consolidate the region as an industrial and technological benchmark in southern Europe. The Minister of University, Industry, Energy and Innovation, Jorge Paradela, shared these plans at the Parliamentary Commission of the Parliament of Andalucía.
Main lines of action
Paradela detailed that the ministry currently manages 56 initiatives with a budget of 993 million euros, in addition to another 31 programmes in the pipeline totalling 623 million euros. The goal is to promote the transfer of knowledge from universities to the industrial sector, as well as to improve the competitiveness of educational institutions on an international level.
The minister also mentioned the upcoming implementation of the University Law for Andalucía (LUPA), which aims to ensure funding and strengthen the autonomy of universities. Additionally, new calls for research and development (R&D) grants are expected, which could activate up to 80 million euros in research and transfer before the end of 2026.
In the energy sector, Andalucía, a leader in renewable energies, will maintain a budget exceeding 273 million euros to improve energy efficiency and promote the implementation of renewable generation plants. Special attention will also be given to the development of new clean energies, such as green hydrogen and biofuels.
Furthermore, Paradela announced the future creation of a comprehensive plan for attracting and stimulating industrial activity, which will extend until 2028-2032. This plan will include the modernisation of 50 industrial estates, with a total budget of 80 million euros, as well as a commitment to sustainable industrialisation, highlighting the potential of mining.
With these actions, the Junta of Andalucía positions itself to advance towards an economic model based on innovation and sustainability, aiming for investment in R&D&I to reach 2% of the region's GDP.
