The province of Málaga has begun the 2026/27 school year with 341,490 students in non-university education, distributed across 1,237 educational centres. Despite the decrease in the number of students, the number of teachers has increased, reaching 23,692.
Visit from the Education Delegate
The Education Delegate, Miguel Briones, visited the CEIP Hans Christian Andersen in Málaga, where he highlighted the efforts of the Junta de Andalucía to improve education. During his visit, Briones emphasized that the new school year is characterized by an increase in teaching staff and a reduction in ratios in Early Childhood and Primary Education, which now go from 25 to 22 students per classroom.
In this new academic period, 135,450 students have started in Early Childhood, Primary and Special Education, across 468 educational centres in the province. Currently, approximately 92.6% of students in Málaga are enrolled in publicly funded centres.
Increase in resources and improvement of infrastructure
The Andalusian educational system incorporates 4,309 teachers into the public network. This figure includes a significant reinforcement in attention to special educational needs, with 2,096 professionals assigned to this area. Additionally, 112 improvement actions are being implemented in infrastructures, with an investment of nearly 13 million euros, benefiting more than 57,000 students.
For this school year, six new educational centres are being built and 496 actions have been completed since 2019, with a total investment of 91.8 million euros. Support for families has also been established, including scholarships and free access to various educational services, benefiting more than 171,800 students in Málaga.
