The Junta de Andalucía has conducted the measurement of the carbon footprint at the 28F Gala for the first time, an event that took place on February 28 in Seville. This initiative is part of the Andalusian Climate Action Plan (PAAC).
The gala, which recognises the Favoured Sons/Daughters and awards the Medals of Andalucía, emitted a total of 29 tonnes of CO2e, with the mobility of the 1,800 attendees, who came from the eight Andalusian provinces, responsible for 87% of this footprint.
Sustainability Policy of the Junta de Andalucía
The Andalusian government has established active measures to mitigate the effects of climate change. The carbon footprint measurement was carried out by the Department of Sustainability and the Environment, using an innovative protocol designed for calculating the carbon footprint of sustainable events.
This type of event aims to ensure minimal environmental impact and leave a positive legacy in society. The gala has become part of the sustainable events registered in the Andalusian Emissions Compensation System (SACE), where 18 events are already listed, accumulating a total of 736,665 tonnes of CO2e associated.
Emission Compensation
Additionally, the Junta has developed the Andalusian Catalogue of Absorption Projects (CAPA), which includes emission compensation initiatives for events like the 28F Gala. This catalogue allows the use of absorption areas to offset the emissions generated by these events.
These efforts are part of a broader approach to tackling climate change, a global challenge that requires collaboration from all sectors of society.
