The Agriculture Delegate Visits TROPS at the Start of the Mango Campaign in Málaga

The town of Málaga was the setting for the recent visit of the territorial delegate for Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Laura Soto, to the headquarters of TROPS, a leading company in the production and marketing of subtropical products. This meeting marked the start of the mango campaign, which is currently in its central phase.

Positive Expectations for the 2026 Campaign

During her visit, Soto highlighted that the province of Málaga is forecasted to harvest 40,000 tonnes of mango, valued at 60 million euros. Although a 30% decrease is expected compared to the previous campaign, the figures remain optimistic due to the record achieved in 2025 with 60,000 tonnes produced.

The delegate emphasized the significance of TROPS in the sector, which holds 55% of the mango market share in Spain and 40% in avocado. Soto also pointed out the role of the Organization of Fruit and Vegetable Producers (OPFH) in enhancing Málaga's agriculture, indicating that the cooperative operates in 22 European countries.

Support for Farmers and Measures Against Climate Adversities

Laura Soto also addressed the challenges faced by the agricultural sector in the province, such as the weather adversities that have impacted production. She reported on the Government's intervention in the Axarquía region, which has invested 43 million euros in hydraulic works. These actions aim to mitigate water shortages and promote the use of reclaimed water for irrigation.

Additionally, Soto mentioned the aid allocated for the recovery of the sector, totalling 7 million euros to support farms affected by floods and winds in recent months. She highlighted that 4.44 million euros have already been allocated to 200 affected farms.
