Progress on the Expansion of Málaga Metro with the First Tunnel Slab

The city of Málaga is progressing in the expansion of its public transport system with the pouring of the first slab of the second section of the Metro. This work is taking place between Hilera and Eugenio Gross and is part of the Extension of the Málaga Metro, promoted by the Ministry of Development and Mobility of the Andalusian Government.

Start of Tunnel Slab Placement

The works have begun with the placement of a covering slab over a stretch of 13 meters in length, located between the connection point with the first section of the Metro and the intersection with Honduras Street. This advancement allows for urban development work to be carried out on the surface occupied by the construction.

The Minister of Development and Mobility, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, highlighted the importance of this step in improving the city's mobility. According to his statements, this action is a prerequisite for the urban redevelopment of the area, which will allow for a gradual recovery of public roadways and a reduction of inconveniences for residents.

Currently, the execution of the screens, which are structures that delimit the tunnel, is 52% complete. Work has been finished on the section connecting to the end of the first and efforts are ongoing to execute screens among other streets in the area.

Details of the Construction

The slab that has been executed measures 8.3 meters in width and one meter in thickness. More than 10 tons of rebar have been used for its construction, and 108 cubic meters of reinforced concrete have been poured. This technique, known as Cut & Cover, facilitates the recovery of the surface as work progresses, allowing traffic to be maintained on adjacent streets.
