Dcoop certifies 33 cooperatives in sustainability, including one from Teba

Dcoop certifies 33 cooperatives with the Sustainably Grown label, covering 53% of its olive oil production. The Teba cooperative is among the newly accredited.

The cooperative group Dcoop has added 33 new mills to its international Sustainably Grown certification, which now supports 53% of its extra virgin olive oil production. Among the accredited entities is the Nuestra Señora del Rosario cooperative from Teba, in Málaga.

Dcoop has given a new boost to its commitment to sustainability by adding 33 cooperatives to its international Sustainably Grown certification. This label, which recognises good environmental, labour and economic practices, now covers 59.4 million kilos of extra virgin olive oil, representing 53% of the total volume obtained by the group in the last campaign.

Among the newly certified mills is the Nuestra Señora del Rosario cooperative from Teba, in the province of Málaga. It is the only entity from Málaga included in this expansion, which also reaches cooperatives from Seville, Jaén, Córdoba and Ciudad Real. With this addition, Dcoop strengthens its presence in the Andalusian and Castilian-Manchego olive oil sector.

The cooperative group, based in Antequera, was the first in Europe to obtain this certification for its olive oil production. Now, with the new round of accreditations, it has 33 cooperatives certified under the Sustainably Grown standard, awarded by the independent entity SCS Global Services.

The certification evaluates criteria such as environmental protection, labour conditions, the economic viability of the farms, and food safety. It also analyses the efficient management of water and soil, the conservation of biodiversity, product traceability, and commitment to local communities.

Dcoop has stated that its goal is to extend this certification to all its olive oil production. For the next campaign, it plans to audit another 44 cooperative mills and the farms of its partners, with the intention of achieving 100% certified production in the coming years.

The expansion of the sustainable label represents another step in the group's strategy to differentiate its product in an increasingly demanding market. For the consumer in Málaga, who can find Dcoop oils at numerous points of sale, this certification guarantees that the product meets international sustainability standards.

The Teba cooperative, Nuestra Señora del Rosario, thus becomes a benchmark in the Guadalteba region, where olive oil production is a key economic activity. Its members will see their efforts to apply sustainable practices recognised, which could open new commercial opportunities.

Dcoop, which groups more than 75,000 farming and livestock families, markets its oils under brands such as Oleoestepa and Dcoop. The Sustainably Grown certification, created by SCS Global Services, is one of the most recognised standards worldwide in agricultural sustainability.

With this initiative, the cooperative group aims not only to improve its market positioning but also to contribute to the fight against climate change and rural development. The commitment to sustainability aligns with consumer demands, who increasingly value the origin and environmental impact of the food they purchase.

The next campaign will be crucial for Dcoop to advance towards its goal of 100% certified production. If achieved, the group would establish itself as one of the largest producers of sustainable olive oil in the world, with a direct impact on the economy of municipalities like Teba and the rest of Andalucía.
