The National Police arrested three men in the early hours of Tuesday in Vélez-Málaga, accused of attempting to force their way into a house in the Zona Hispanidad neighbourhood. The swift alert from a neighbour allowed them to be intercepted as they fled.
The quick intervention of the National Police in Vélez-Málaga prevented a burglary from being carried out in a house in the Zona Hispanidad neighbourhood. Three men were arrested in the early hours of last Tuesday, just minutes after they allegedly attempted to break into a property on Murcia Street.
The events unfolded around 1:30 AM, when a member of the public alerted the Emergency Services number 112 about the presence of several individuals with their faces covered trying to access a house. According to the call, one of the suspects had broken a window with a brick in an attempt to enter.
The coordinating centre relayed the information to the National Police, which immediately deployed several patrol cars. Upon arrival, the first officers at the scene observed a vehicle speeding away from the street with its lights off, prompting them to alert the rest of the units.
With the assistance of the Local Police of Vélez-Málaga, a setup was established that successfully intercepted the car in the vicinity. Inside were three men, who were arrested on the spot. The officers searched the vehicle and found tools such as a crowbar, a bolt cutter, and a hammer, as well as clothing that they allegedly used to cover their faces during the attempted burglary.
Subsequently, the officers confirmed that the window of the house had been tampered with, although the suspects were unable to gain access to the interior thanks to the swift response from the community and police. The detainees, whose further details have not been disclosed, were placed at the disposal of the judiciary as suspected perpetrators of an attempted burglary.
The incident has caused some concern among residents of the Zona Hispanidad, a residential area of Vélez-Málaga that does not usually experience incidents of this nature. Police sources have reminded the importance of citizen collaboration in preventing and solving crimes, encouraging neighbours to report any suspicious activity.
The investigation remains open to determine whether the detainees could be linked to other burglaries in the area, although at present there are no indications pointing in that direction. The three men remain in police custody awaiting their appearance before the duty court in Vélez-Málaga.
