The municipality of Alozaina in Malaga is preparing for one of the largest investments in its history. The Government of Spain has approved a budget of nearly 14 million euros to finance 57 projects presented by the Town Hall to repair the damage caused by recent floods and strengthen infrastructure against future episodes of heavy rainfall.
The mayor of Alozaina has highlighted that the funds will allow not only for the recovery of what was lost but also for the modernisation of facilities and improvement of municipal networks. "This investment not only involves repairing what the floods destroyed but also building a municipality with better infrastructure, safer, more modern, and better prepared for the future," he stated.
Among the public buildings that will be subject to intervention are the Town Hall, the Sports Pavilion, the Punto Vuela (formerly Guadalinfo), and the Nursery School. All of them were damaged by the storm or require actions related to its consequences.
The works will also affect water supply and sanitation networks, aiming to repair damaged points and strengthen basic services that were particularly vulnerable during the rainfall. Streets, squares, and other public spaces will complete this part of the investment.
One of the main focuses of the programme is the recovery of rural roads. Action will be taken on 36 roads used daily by farmers, residents of scattered areas, and neighbours who use them to move within the municipality. Their repair will restore communications and access affected by the floods, improving safety and transit conditions.
The countryside and agricultural operations will be some of the main beneficiaries of this investment, which will not be limited to the urban area. The intention of the Town Hall is to take advantage of the reconstruction to leave behind safer and better-prepared infrastructures than those existing before the storm.
Another focus will be prevention. The Town Hall plans to build or improve defences in streams and flood-prone areas to reduce the impact of future floods. These interventions will seek to facilitate water evacuation and protect both homes and municipal facilities and infrastructure.
The mayor has emphasised that the project covers practically all corners of the municipality, with a comprehensive approach that combines repair, modernisation, and prevention. The residents of Alozaina will see how, in the coming months, works begin at multiple points within the municipality.
The actions are part of the Government's aid plan for municipalities affected by storms. The execution period for the projects will extend over the coming months, aiming to have the main infrastructures reinforced before the next rainy season.
