The Málaga Provincial Council funds the channeling of three streams that flooded the MA-3113 with €629,411. The work, which began in August, will last five months.
Machines have been working since last August on the streams of La Moneda, La Cañada de la Carraca, and La Cañada de los Estudiantes, in Triana, a population centre of Vélez-Málaga. The project, fully funded by the Málaga Provincial Council with €629,411.28, has a duration of five months and aims to provide a definitive solution to the flooding that has historically affected the MA-3113 road, the main access to Triana and connection with the A-356 and Benamargosa.
The president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, highlighted that the project responds to a historical demand from residents. “This project responds to a historical demand from the residents of Triana, who have suffered the problems caused by heavy rains at this point on the road for years,” Salado stated, emphasising that it will structurally solve a problem that required repairs after every significant rainfall.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, stressed the municipal work to unlock the land. “There has been significant administrative work to unlock the necessary land and make it available to the Provincial Council. And then the commitment of the Málaga Provincial Council to fund and execute this project has been essential,” Lupiáñez declared, adding: “What is important today is not that we come to see a project, but that the residents of Triana can see that what they have been demanding for so many years is finally happening.”
The deputy mayor of Triana, Lourdes Piña, stated that residents are well aware of the problem: “We have gone from demanding a solution to seeing it physically underway, and that is a huge satisfaction for all of Triana.” The councillor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, explained that the work is “complex and very necessary” and reminded that it is not just a hydraulic intervention but also aims to improve the safety of a vital road for communications with the A-356 and the rest of the Axarquía.
The works include raising the road level in the La Moneda stream and installing a prefabricated concrete frame for water passage under the road, with the channeling buried to the north and a new channeling with concrete side walls to the south. In La Cañada de la Carraca, a cross drainage work will be carried out under the MA-3113 with a prefabricated frame, an absorber to collect rainwater, and a new downstream channeling. In La Cañada de los Estudiantes, a concrete pipe and several absorbers will be constructed.
