The mayor of Alhaurín el Grande, Anthony Bermúdez, has issued a decree regulating the Día de Jesús festivities on June 13-14. The rules restrict chair placement and firework use to ensure safety and cleanliness.
Residents of Alhaurín el Grande will only be allowed to place chairs on public streets from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, for the Día de Jesús processions, according to a municipal decree published Monday. The bando, signed by Mayor Anthony Bermúdez, sets a strict timetable for the removal of chairs and other furniture after the processions end on Sunday, June 14, to allow municipal services to clean the streets.
The decree, dated June 8, 2026, outlines nine specific regulations aimed at ensuring the smooth running of the religious festivities in honor of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno. The rules cover everything from the placement of chairs and the use of fireworks to waste disposal and respect for residents. "I urge all participants, neighbors and visitors to strive for civic participation and responsibility," Bermúdez stated in the document.
One of the key measures concerns the timing of chair placement. Residents may set up chairs from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, but they must remove them immediately after the procession on Sunday. Failure to do so could result in the removal of chairs by the local police, as stipulated in Article 140 of the Municipal Ordinance on street cleaning and urban landscape. This regulation aims to prevent obstacles for pedestrians and traffic and to facilitate cleaning work.
Fireworks, a traditional element of the celebration, will also be restricted. The decree authorizes rocket launches only during specific events: the visit to the hermitages on Friday at 8:00 p.m., the rociera mass at 10:00 p.m.; on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. (diana), the legion entrance at 12:00 p.m., bell ringing at 3:00 p.m., and the procession departure at 9:15 p.m.; on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. (diana), the parade at 12:00 p.m., and the procession departure at 8:15 p.m., as well as fireworks during the encierro. The mayor called for "reasonable and reduced use" of fireworks to protect vulnerable people.
In terms of waste management, the decree encourages residents to use fixed and temporary bins that will be installed near the celebration areas. It also asks residents to reduce waste by optimizing packaging and to deposit garbage in containers between 9:00 p.m. and midnight. The placement of construction containers on procession streets is forbidden. Additionally, the council will apply an anti-wax product in certain areas, and residents are asked to respect these zones.
The decree also calls for respectful behavior towards the elderly, children, and people with reduced mobility. This year's regulations are consistent with previous editions, though the mayor emphasized the need for collaboration to project the best image of the town. "Hospitality and collaboration are indispensable to project the best image of our town," Bermúdez wrote.
Residents are advised to check the official schedule and follow the rules to avoid fines. The main procession departs at 9:15 p.m. on Saturday and at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday. The festivities are expected to attract visitors from the surrounding areas, making compliance with the rules crucial for public safety and cleanliness.
