The mayor, Joaquín Villanova, meets with a dozen owners to detail the redevelopment and underground parking, which will be awarded soon for €7.2 million.
The mayor of Alhaurín de la Torre, Joaquín Villanova, held a meeting with business owners on Isaac Peral Avenue to inform them about the street redevelopment works and the construction of an underground parking facility. The meeting, held this week, was attended by around ten people, along with the Councillor for Commerce, María del Mar Martínez, and municipal technicians who explained the development of the works.
The contract award is expected soon, according to the Town Hall. The investment amounts to approximately €7.2 million. A total of eight bids were submitted for the public tender.
Villanova assured that the works will be carried out "with the highest safety conditions", with fencing and designated pedestrian crossings. He also noted that measures will be studied to compensate for the inconvenience to merchants and added: "We are confident that the final result will be excellent, it will please everyone and we hope to cause as little disruption as possible."

The mayor responded to the attendees' concerns and stated that efforts will be made to shorten the deadlines. The Town Hall is also finalising a traffic reorganisation plan in the area, as the street will be closed to vehicular traffic during the works. This plan will include improvements to road safety on Pedro Pérez Hidalgo street and the installation of a traffic light on Tejar street to regulate traffic in both directions, among other measures.
The project is part of the Integrated Action Plan (PAI), which will receive €8,961,678 in funding through the EU's FEDER Financial Path. The initiative aims to restore the historic heart of Alhaurín de la Torre and strengthen its identity, according to the Town Hall.
The future parking facility will feature two underground levels totalling 3,985 square metres (1,979 per level) and will accommodate 133 spaces. The pedestrianisation of the street will cover 3,668.50 square metres, with landscaped areas that will include over 80 new trees and a space for pedestrian transit and stay of 2,711 square metres.
The EU is funding the project due to its benefits for air quality, reduction of CO2 emissions, and promotion of active mobility. The bidding budget was €7,242,847.98 (including VAT).
