Grupo ISP takes over the operation of the Torcal Alto Visitor Centre in Antequera with a plan that includes expanding parking, installing a control barrier, and creating a Torcal Passport for local residents. The paving of the access road will begin on 23rd September.
The Torcal Alto Visitor Centre, located in the natural area of El Torcal de Antequera, begins a new phase following the awarding of its operation to Grupo ISP. The presentation took place this Thursday at the facilities and included remarks from the mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, alongside the group's general director, José Antonio Camuñez, and the centre's coordinator, Antonio Cebrián.
Among the planned actions, the management contract includes expanding the parking by approximately ten spaces and installing a barrier to control access. The aim is to improve safety and manage the flow of vehicles, avoiding situations of congestion that could hinder emergency services.
Inside the centre, visitor assistance and information will be enhanced, with the introduction of an audio service in several languages to facilitate understanding of the exhibition on the history and geology of El Torcal. The Torcal Alto restaurant will also be promoted, boosting local gastronomy.
The centre's coordinator announced the creation of a “Torcal Passport” aimed at the residents of Antequera, which will include access benefits and advantages at the restaurant and shop. The initiative seeks to make the locals feel the centre is a nearby space and engage them in caring for the area. As a future possibility, Cebrián suggested advancing towards connections via sustainable transport to reduce the use of private vehicles.
The mayor recalled that the City Council does not have administrative management powers over the centre, whose concession belongs to the Junta de Andalucía, but is working to promote improvements and facilitate collaboration between administrations. In this regard, he announced that on Wednesday 23rd September, the paving of the access road to the Visitor Centre will begin, an action requested by the City Council last July.
“The project for the camping site at Nacimiento de la Villa will be presented in October,” the mayor revealed, describing the facility as the perfect complement to the Visitor Centre and the natural area.
For his part, José Antonio Camúñez explained that the group aims to become the main platform for rural and active tourism in southern Spain through a comprehensive management model that combines accommodation, hospitality, mobility, and nature activities. Their presence includes locations such as Sierra de Grazalema, El Torcal, Sierra de las Nieves, Doñana, and Sierra de Gredos.
The general director advocated for management focused on offering quality experiences, improving services, and ensuring that the wealth generated by tourism remains in the territory, while respecting the natural environment.
