The Civil Guard has arrested a person for a crime of assaulting authority and is investigating two others for assault and damage in relation to the aggression suffered by the principal and a teacher at Los Montecillos Institute in Coín, as reported by Diario Sur. The events occurred on Thursday, just three days after the start of the 2026-27 school year in Secondary education.
The origin was a conflict at the centre with a group of students that ended up in the principal's office. One of the minors alerted their relatives, who showed up at the institute and kicked the door. The principal was shouted at and assaulted, and another teacher who tried to mediate was also hit. The Civil Guard had to be dispatched to the educational centre.
After the events became known, the Coín City Council expressed its rejection, and the school management called for a gathering this Friday morning. More than a hundred relatives, teachers, and members of the educational community attended the event to support the two assaulted teachers.
The staff came out with small placards bearing messages against violence in educational centres, while a larger banner presided over the gathering, which concluded with applause. During the event, the vice-principal of the institute, Juan Méndez, explained that both professionals are still affected by what happened, especially on an emotional level.
“They are feeling bad due to the physical harm, the fall, and the assaults, and especially psychologically, questioning whether this is worth it or not.”
Méndez acknowledged that this situation has led the teachers and the management team to ask themselves “many questions” after an episode that has shaken the start of the school year in the municipality.
